Cocker Spaniels - Rescues - General Information

Cocker Spaniels are sporting dogs that have a long history and are well distributed in the world. There are two breeds named Cockers - the American and the English Cocker Spaniel. Judging by their name one can assume that they are close relatives and have a lot of similar features both in appearance and personality.

English Cocker Spaniels are a little larger. They can weigh from 28 to 34 pounds. Females are usually smaller than males. The English Cocker stands about 16-17 inches at the shoulder. It has a flat skull and a broad muzzle. The upper lip does not cover the lower part of the jaw.

On the contrary, the American Cocker Spaniel has a well-developed upper lip. The skull is more rounded with a pronounced top. The American Cocker is the smallest of all the Spaniels. Its weight should not exceed 24-28 pounds, whereas the height should be about 14-15 inches.

Cocker Spaniels have dark almond-shaped eyes. Ears are long lying closely to the head. A bite other than scissors is now allowed. Cockers have a strong neck, a compactly build body, and a docked tail sequential of a short back.

Cocker Spaniels - Rescues - Personality

Cocker Spaniels are merry dogs that are suited well for families and older people. They are active indoors and need a considerable amount of exercise to keep fit. They make wonderful companions for energetic people who are eager to spend a lot of time outdoors. Children particularly love their playfulness. However, it is recommended to supervise kids to make sure they do not harm a dog. Cocker Spaniels are very intelligent and do well with other pets.
