Cocker Spaniels breeders are eager to improve the breed putting emphasis on its hunting qualities, appearance, and health. Aims can vary some depending on the country. Thus, English Cocker Spaniels are known as perfect hunters and are very popular in Europe and Australia. Breeders choose to breed from the best breeding lines that have proved their excellence in a variety of activities.

Responsible breeders who care about the breed prefer breeding Cockers from champion bloodlines. It helps to preserve the Cocker's natural ability to hunt and consequently maintains its popularity. Parent dogs should not only be working ones but should also have numerous titles in the field and tracking work to attract the attention of an experienced breeder.

American Cockers are now used mainly as pets. They are frequent stars of various show rings and can brighten up any advertisement or a movie.
